font-family: "Century Gothic","sans-serif";">When I was getting this month’s talk put together, I struggled with figuring out the main point of what I was trying to get across. I even tossed around a few different ideas of what to talk about. I thought of thankfulness, being humble, trusting in God, humility. All great topics that would all be completely relevant to our lives on a daily basis but they weren’t what I was trying to get across. I knew what I wanted to say, but I just wasn’t sure what the main point of what I was saying was. So, when I was re-reading my notes and going over it in my head, it came to me….nothing. Nothing is the main point of this. Let me explain that a little further…When it comes to what I have in life; I have nothing, I am nothing and I have earned nothing….that is without God’s grace. And on top of all of this….this is what I deserve, nothing. Who can tell me what mercy is? (AUDIENCE INPUT) The definition of mercy, as Webster’s puts it is: compassion that refrains from punishment even when the actions demand it. What about grace? (AUDIENCE INPUT) Grace is: unmerited divine assistance given to humans for their regeneration or sanctification. That was all a little too much for me to digest, so let me put it in plain English for us, mercy is NOT getting what you do deserve. An example is; you don’t get punished for sneaking the cookies out of the cookie jar. Or you don’t get reprimanded at work for messing up the big project. EVEN THOUGH YOU DESERVE TO, you are given mercy. Grace on the other hand, is getting something that you DO NOT deserve. You get an F on a test and the teacher gives you an A for no apparent reason. You screw up the big project at work and you get the corner office and the fat bonus at the end of the year. That’s grace. This is the same as what God’s grace has afforded us. God gave us his Son in the ultimate, loving sacrifice. It is God’s grace that has allowed us the ability and the availability to God the Father, to develop a relationship with Him. He wants us to develop that relationship. He wants to hear from us, to love us, to grow closer to us. God wants to be our number one. And it’s through trust and faith in Christ Jesus that we can develop that relationship. It’s through humbling ourselves before God, not just when it’s convenient but all the time, even when things don’t seem like they are going the way we think should be in line with His will. Proverbs 3:34 & 35 say, “Surely He scoffs at the scoffers; but He gives grace unto the lowly. The wise shall inherit glory; but shame shall be the promotion of fools”. What this is saying, is that meekness and humbleness, the lowly, will win in the end but the prideful ways will fall by the wayside. There are other keys that will help us to develop our relationship with Christ along the way that will cause you to become bolder in your faith and we’ll get into those in a minute. Becoming bolder in your faith will make you more vocal about the grace that God has granted us. I did a search on four words in the Bible. Thank or thankful, humble, humility and trust. Thank and thankful appeared 118 times. Humble appeared 41 times. Humility, a mere 14 times. But trust, trust appeared in the Bible 135 times! So just based on those numbers, and this is what I said I was going to get back to, I would venture to say that there are two key components to my attitude towards Jesus …. thankfulness, and trust or what is also referred to as faith. Now without thankfulness or trust, I would be hard pressed to further my walk with Christ. You see the attitude of thankfulness is based on being humble and showing humility. All this adds up to something greater. In Matthew 11:28 - 29, (you all will remember this verse when you hear it), Jesus is teaching about the Kingdom of God and says, “Come to Me, all who are weary and heavy-laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. “For My yoke is easy and My burden is light.” The word gentle is used here in this translation is gentle; the word humble is also attached to it. Other translations say “free of pride” & meek. So, do you see that the attitude of the “lowly” or of meekness, is an attitude of gratitude and service? I could go on about this, but we’re going to move on. Let’s take a look at a few more passages where it talks about thanks….Psalms 136:1 says “Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good. His love endures forever”. Just like we heard in our song earlier. In Mathew 26:26, we see Jesus at the last supper “…Jesus took the bread, gave thanks and broke it”. Later in verse 27 he takes the cup and gives thanks to God. If Jesus Christ, God incarnate is giving thanks to the Father, how much more thankful should we be to the Father for what we have been given? I mean, he is giving thanks for bread and you think, well the guy was just hungry and really appreciated the bread. No! If you look at the Sermon on the Mount where Jesus is teaching about prayer he says we should be asking for our daily bread. That was the most basic of substances back then. Bread was just to keep you alive. There was nothing fancy to it. And we are commanded in the bible to be praying for our daily bread. For just enough to keep us going. We are to be asking God for just enough in our lives and giving thanks everyday for that “just enough!” In Romans 1:18-22, Paul is talking to us about the backlash, the outcome of thankLESS-ness. It says in verse 21, “For although they knew God”, they refers to mankind, “they neither glorified Him as God nor gave thanks to Him, but their thinking became futile and their foolish hearts were darkened.” They were not thankful for what they had been given. You see, here’s the scary part that Paul shares with us in Romans…If you don’t know God, if you don’t have or haven’t had a relationship with Jesus Christ, you are held to a different standard when it comes to the Law, meaning the guidelines that Jesus has given us under the new covenant. But IF YOU DO have, or HAVE HAD a relationship with Jesus Christ, and you DO KNOW the Law, the guidelines, the rules to the game; you will be held to a different standard on judgment day. The bible tells us that we will be EXPECTED to have done everything humanly possible to follow God’s Law. Now, as humans we all fall short of the Glory of God. That’s why God had to send Jesus to save us. God allowed the ultimate sacrifice to be made on Mount Moriah or Calvary as it’s better know, so that WE can have a relationship with Him. In 1 Thessalonians 5:18 Paul tells us to, "give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God's will for you in Christ Jesus." It isn't difficult to give thanks for the things we want to come our way; it is the hardships that threaten our stance of praise. It’s when things get tough that we forget to give thanks in all circumstances. If you are content in your walk with Christ, if you think you are a model Christ follower, look at what Paul told the church in Macedonia in Philippians 3:3-11. Paul says this, “For we are the true circumcision, who worship in the Spirit of God and glory in Christ Jesus and put no confidence in the flesh, although I myself might have confidence even in the flesh. The word used in this translation is rubbish, but the literal translation of this word from the Greek was dung. All that I have without Christ Jesus is dung. I know that all this sounds a little harsh, but let’s look at one more example of a man who was known to be God’s greatest servant. His most righteous on Earth and then we’ll close. In the Old Testament, in the book of Job. For those of you who haven’t read the book of Job recently and think you are doing pretty good in your walk, take a look at this book. It will definitely put it all into perspective for you. In Job chapters 40-42 we get a clear account of what God the Father is really like. Here Job is upset with God after loosing everything. He lost all of his servants in one day. His livelihood, in one day. His eleven children; in one day! And His body was covered in soars. Just before this, God and Job are dialoging and God is asking Job a series of questions that there is no way a human could answer. In the beginning of chapter 40, Job just finished giving God his two cents. He’s wondering why has God let this happen to his faithful servant-me. “ Then the Lord said to Job, in verse 1 “Will the faultfinder contend with the Almighty? Let him who reproves God answer it.” Then Job answered the Lord and said, “Behold, I am insignificant; what can I reply to You? I lay my hand on my mouth. “Once I have spoken, and I will not answer; Even twice, and I will add nothing more.” Job was getting a little too forward with the Father! And God laid into him for it. It goes on and God asks Job, did I not make all the animals and make you Lord over them? He reminds Job that He is THE creator. He can take anything he gives! It goes on and God continues to ask Job question upon question about the things that only He can do. In chapter 41, verse 11 God says, “Who has a claim against me that I must pay? Everything under the heavens belongs to Me.” In the end, chapter 42, Job humbles himself and says this. 2 “I know that You can do all things, And that no purpose of Yours can be thwarted. 3 ‘Who is this that hides counsel without knowledge?’ “Therefore I have declared that which I did not understand, Things too wonderful for me, which I did not know.” 4 ‘Hear, now, and I will speak; I will ask You, and You instruct me.’ 5 “I have heard of You by the hearing of the ear; But now my eye sees You; 6 Therefore I retract, And I repent in dust and ashes.” Shortly after this in verse 10, God restores Job, broken and humbled, to his previous stature time two! You see, even when calamity does come in our life and God does take back everything that is rightfully His, if we keep our faith in Him and we keep our eyes focused on Him and try to see the bigger picture….God will win and He will make His will known in our lives. So I ask you and I ask myself, who is number one in our lives? What are we doing on a daily basis to show God, not to show our boss, or our neighbor down the street but to show Him that we deserve NOTHING but His grace? As we sit at home with our families and out here in this beautiful desert…all of which God has given to us are we thankful? Are we showing God gratitude? Do we have an attitude of gratitude? This nothing that I am talking about is worth everything. It’s the nothing I want to be bold enough to tell others about. The nothing that has turned my life around and keeps my eyes focused on God daily. It is the nothing that I encourage you to focus on. For in the end, we will have nothing but God’s amazing grace! Jess and I both consider you all our family. As family, lets encourage one another to follow God’s laws and be bold in who we serve. Let’s take some steps in developing our relationship with our Father in this new year. I would say make it a new year’s resolution but we all tend to break those, so instead let’s make it something we really can do. Like for me, spending more time in prayer. As I play the song “ “ I encourage you to think about what it is you can work on in your own life to draw closer to God and to make that commitment to him?

Steve Colburn update

This just in from the Colburn camp....

Hi guys- I'm told things went well! Ed Arnitz and John Reininga hosed a fantastic weekend. Friday started with great weather and a good sized crowd. The good neighbor policy was definitely in effect since we were sharing the football field this time with two other groups. By Friday afternoon/early evening we had about 25 trailers in camp and ended up with 30 by Saturday morning, 6 of them were new families! God continues to bless this group. The morning meeting brought everyone out to go over the days full agenda and beautiful weather followed. Ed and John had set up a trail for a bingo run where you picked up your cards on the trail and brought them back to camp with you for a bingo calling event reminiscent of the local senior centers. They even had one set up for the kids! Jack Rabbits was hosted by Michelle Peltzer and the little Rabbits colored cups and played various games set up by our loving volunteers. Robin Richter had the new ITD wears displayed and order forms on hand. If you didn't get to see it, check out the web site. Ed and John continued with the festivities by hosting lunch for everyone in camp. I heard of a few groups heading out to Randsburg for shakes after lunch and many others heading off in various directions to enjoy the perfect weather. Bingo calling was next with prizes for those lucky enough to get the right combo of numbers and letters. Thank you to Ed, John and Robin Richter for the prizes provided. The evenings fireside brought everyone together again to relive the days highlights, play Family Fued and sing worship songs. The nights talk was on how confession to each other will quench the guilt in our hearts. The after fire desert table continued to thrive with many people staying out to socialize and enjoy the delicious sweets. Sunday morning brought out the wind and kept a lot of us inside hoping for better weather. While many continued to ride on, half of the group began to pack it in and head for home. The other half, that's right 15 trailers, stayed on untill Monday and some untill Tuesday! Monday was as beautiful as Saturday and with a smaller group no planned activities, the rides were happening all over the place!

I would like to thank Ed, John, Michelle and Robin for all the work that was done this weekend. It truly does take a village to put on one of these weekends. I hope to see many of you this coming weekend at our "Out of the Dirt" activity and Thanksgiving Feast. I'm going to attempt to deep fry a turkey! (It may be pizza) If you have any pictures that you would like to share, Email Jess and jd.oconnell@gmail.com and she can help you get that on the web site.

I look forward to seeing you all in three weeks at Ocotillo North!

In His Service,
Dan O'Connell

P.S. Many of you have asked about Steve Colburn and his family. I have posted on the prayer message board the latest and greatest. Please continue to pray for the Colburn family as this is just the beginning. font-family: "Century Gothic","sans-serif";">Well, it’s that time again. It’s time to pack up the toys and the family and head back out. This coming weekend, November 7, 8, & 9 will take us to Randsburg, or as it’s more commonly know, Matt’s place. Those of you unfamiliar with the area it’s located about 34 miles north of the 395 & 58 interchange. Once you hit 33 miles you will start to ascend a short grade and there will be a yellow cow sign at the top of the hill on the right. If you’re showing up later in the evening, we will have some glow sticks on the sign to mark it for you. Ed Arnitz and John Reinenga will be our trail bosses for the weekend and Ed has informed me that the signs leading in from the road will be up late Thursday. This weekend is a long weekend for most of the school districts and I have already heard of many families planning on staying out through Tuesday, so bring extra water. Ed and John will be hosting a poker run on Saturday that always promises to be a lot of fun. An actual group ride to an undisclosed location will be happening as well. Our official camp roster keeper, Karin Murray, has come up with a schedule for rides that we will be testing out this weekend. So, if you like it, great. If you didn’t, she’s the one with the Pomeranians. The mining town of Randsburg always attracts a ride or two from those craving the famous malt shop. A short easy ride will get you there in about 30 minutes on a bike or quad. Our Saturday morning meeting will be happening at 9 a.m. and our Saturday evening program will be kicking off at 7 p.m. Jackrabbits on Saturday will be led by Michelle Peltzer who is asking for volunteers to help out for future rides. Our fireside message will be on guilt and confession, so come with an open heart. Following our fireside, we will be having our dessert pot luck, so don’t forget to bring your favorite to share! The weather at this point is showing to be clear and 75, but as we saw last time, the weather man was a bit off!

Can’t wait to see you all again.

In His Service

Dan O'Connell

www.inthedirt.org

www.inthedirtministry.blogspot.com

First "Out of the Dirt" Activity

Hey ITD Family!

We are going to be having our first "Out of the Dirt" activity at our house on Saturday, October 25th from 5:30-9pm.

We are going to be doing a pot luck dinner at 5:30 and will start the movie right at 7. With an ambulance ride on Friday; a lost rider, Jack Rabbits, a ride of attrition and a petrified coyote on Saturday; and a picnic on Sunday how could you go wrong? Oh, and don't forget about the wind. Thursday started off with the Murrays, Northrups, Kearleys, Richters and Shermans arriving early and the wind followed them in. Friday morning brought about cooler temps than many had planned for but didn't stop anyone from having fun! Russ Beard is officially the first injury of the year when a berm jumped in front of him and bucked him right off his quad! The ITD medical staff, John Northrup, was quick to the scene. Thank you John! After a brief stay at St. Mary's hospital, Russ joined us with only major bruising. More families began to trickle in throughout the day and the camping area was filling up nicely. Friday night brought more of, you guessed it, wind. Saturday morning calmed down and the weather was again, cooler than many planed, but that didn't keep any of us from doing what we love. The morning gather brought everyone out of their trailers and we had 29 families in all, 5 new families and 3 day riders. A total of 100+ people! I would like to take this time again to welcome those new families. It was great to have you join us! God is constantly blessing this group! A big thank you goes out to Cathy Sujishi for taking over the welcome bags. The riding began shortly after that with Robert Murray leading the "Fast and the Furious" as I hear they have been coined on a ride of attrition. At one point Robert was heard saying, "this is as bad as it gets, promise!" Then it got worse. The ride that left with ten, returned with nine. One rider got separated and had mechanical difficulties and the search was on. He was found shortly thereafter and returned safely to camp. Lisa Kearley and Wendy Northrup led the Jack Rabbits on a Verse for Treat hunt through camp. After having to repeat their verse "Let your light shine before men." Matthew 5:16 in order to get candy...they had that verse nailed! The kids were good and sugared up to ride after that! We had various other group rides on Saturday taking off in various directions throughout Cougar Buttes. Saturday nights fireside game was Taboo. Everyone enjoyed their time playing, especially team five who won. The nights talk was on unlikely messengers and how God is constantly talking to us, we just need to be open and willing to listen. After the campfire talk, we gathered together to pray for the Colburn family. It was a true blessing to have Steve join us for the weekend as we continue as a group to pray for Steve and his girls, Joni, Faith, and Grace. Please continue to keep all of them in your prayers! The night ended with one of the fullest dessert tables I recall seeing! We awoke Sunday to a perfect day, sunny with a slight breeze. As many packed up to head home and prepare for the next ride, the Richter clan embarked on what I hear was an adventuresome picnic ride to finger rock. As Matt and Josh searched for the Geocaches, Steve and the twins went to work on the picnic basket! Only Robin would bring a picnic to the desert...what a great idea! I also saw a group led by Karin Murray leave camp to head to Anderson Dry Lake. It is awesome to see a group of riders, all different levels of riding, do a destination ride all together, just because they love to ride and they love to be together!

As the last few trailers packed up and drove off in a cloud of dust, I was reminded of what a family this group has become. I have seen more support for each other and more love for a neighbor each and every time we are together. I would like to thank everyone who was so supportive of Jess and myself this weekend. From encouraging words and compliments to helping us with our children and our monster puppy. I must admit, me and the microphone need to become better friends! Thank you all so much, we truly are blessed to have this family. I look forward to seeing you all at our next ride in November at Matt's Place (Randsburg). Don't forget to check out October's pictures on the Gallery page of our web site!

<p style="font-family: trebuchet ms; Steve Colburn has been diagnosed with stage 4 cancer. Please read the Email below for a more in depth look than I could ever provide. For those that don’t know Steve, his wife Joni and their daughters Faith and Grace, they have been a part of ITD since the early days. They left last year to South Carolina following where God was leading. The Colburn family have always been a positive influence, a Godly family role model and are missed deeply at the campfire. As you read Steve’s latest update, I pray that if you are able to help in any way, that you wouldn’t hesitate. The other request that I have is that we all pray. Pray for Gods divine intervention and pray that this treatment works for Steve.

<p class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: 12pt; Two things I have always truly admired Steve for are his commitment to his family and his faith. He has a faith in God bigger than anyone I have ever met. Steve will be with us this weekend out at Cougar Buttes, take some time to talk to him and you will see. We all know that our God is an awesome God and that a chord of three strands isn’t easily broken. Prayer is a powerful thing and with the love of this ITD community and the power of our Lord Jesus Christ, I know that miracles will happen.
<div style="text-align: justify; I meet with the specialist at UCLA today and here is the summary of what he said. There is no FDA approved drugs that can really help me or extend my life. He is currently doing a new study where he would inject me with a high dosage of "protein" directly into my lymph nodes. This should boost my immune system and help in killing off the cancer cells. The study has only been around about 3 months and only has 5 patients (AKA lab rats) the one patient that has been in the study for all 3 months is doing very very well and the other 4 have all been in the study for less then 2 months and still to early tell if it is working. He is optimistic but in a trial like this a 5 to 10% long term success rate is typical. The great thing about this type of procedure is that it does not currently seem to have the side effects like the Chemo does. I had a blood test today to find out if I have the right type of proteins for this study, if I pass this test then I have to go in for a very very through physical and more testing. If that goes well, I should be starting this new treatment in a couple of weeks.

If this does not work or only works marginally, I will be off to Bethesda, Maryland to get in a trial under the leading cancer specialist in the world. That process is very very intense and would mean me being in the hospital in the ICC unit 2 weeks of every month. The doctor told me that this process is 10x more toxic then my past chemo treatment.

He thinks my natural immune system is doing a good job fighting the cancer and he is optimistic. (as much as you can be when dealing with stage 4 terminal cancer)

Many of you have asked what you can do for us. The primary thing is continued prayer, specifically that I will pass all of these test and can get in this study. Next that this new "protein" injections will work for me. I am not sure if this process will help save my life but I am praying that by my agreeing to be part of the study, it will in someway help others beat this disease in the future. Finally please pray for Joni and the girls as I will have limited opportunities to be home with them. My absence puts even more pressure and strain on Joni. She already has a very full plate with running her new business and taking care of the kids and trying to support me.

I am also hoping I can get a few of you to volunteer an extra room so I could stay with you for a week every month or so for the next few months. I am trying to avoid renting a place of my own so that I can use those funds for airline tickets to go home and see my girls. Hopefully once a month. I was thinking if I could get a few people that would be open to this, then I could just stay a week at a time so that it would not be to big of a burden for any one.

I am also looking for any discount airline vouchers that someone may have that they would be willing to sell. I know that it may be a long shot but I also know that many of you are looking for a tangible way you can help. More importantly, I have learned that I need to ask for help, I cannot and have not made it this far on my on. At times like this you really appreciate the people in your life and the relationship you have with them. I am learning that you can lose many things in life, health, money and material possessions, but your relationship with God and others around you cannot be taken from you. I hope in the days to come that you will take an extra minute and tell those around you how much you love them and how much you appreciate them. Let me start, If you are getting this email it means you hold a very special place in Joni and I's heart. I know I speak for both of us when I say we love you guys and really appreciate you.

We know God has a plan for my life and only he knows how many days I have left. This is not the path I would have chosen for my life but I know with Gods help and the support from people like you, my family and I will get through this.

God Bless and thank you,

Steve Colburn

IT Season Opener

Wow, can you believe it’s over? Summer. It’s gone! Well, the heat’s not, but the kids are back in school, the leaves on the trees are confused and we have weather like Hawaii. Typical Southern California. One thing you can count on though this time of year is the ITD season kicking off. Robert Murray will be leading us to Cougar Buttes in the Lucerne Valley, Oct. 10th -12th. The Buttes always brings some beautiful scenery, some fun riding and a great time of fellowship. The rock formations around camp are always a favorite with the younger crowd. We will be in a similar location to last year, barring anybody getting there before us. Click here for the Google Map. The map will also be linked on the web site and this Email will be posted on the blog. This will get you in the right area, but I am sure that Robert will have the signs up on Thursday so that there will be no confusion. Lisa Kearley and Wendy Northrup will be leading younger riders in Jack Rabbits this month. Please make sure to R.S.V.P. on the roll call so that we can make sure we have the proper supplies and that no one gets left out. The weekends message will be on the unlikely messengers in our lives and how God uses them to guide us in our walk. Don’t forget that Saturday night is our dessert pot luck! We will have our campfire at 7:00 instead of 6:00 to try and get the most out of our daylight savings time and our Saturday morning gathering will be at 9:00 as usual.

Can’t wait to see you all In The Dirt!

Through the years

I am sitting here going through old pictures to update the web site. I found so many pictures of the teens that I have watched grow up over the last two years. The McNeff boys, Jake Arnitz and Matt Reninga have changed SO MUCH!! This is a picture from Supercross, February '06. Notice Ed??
My point is, this is a group that has grown together and will continue grow as a group. In the off season, I find myself missing the relationships that have developed over the years. I have come to find myself missing the time we get to spend together watching the kids play together and just talking. This is the main idea behind the Out of the Dirt activities. I really do hope that this inspires others to host these type of events. Just a reminder, Jess and I will be hosting the first two, October 25th and November 22nd, at our house. Life is about the relationships that we have and what we make of them.

Can't wait to see you all In The Dirt!
Dan O

2008-2009 Riding Season

Welcome to In The Dirt, season five! It's only August and I am already itching to get back at it. I can not wait to see what God has in store for us in the upcoming season!

The off season has brought about some changes to the look and feel of the In The Dirt crew. First and probably most noticeable would be that fact that I am the one writing this and not Jim. For those of you that haven't checked the web site lately or missed the picnic, Jim is stepping down and in turn, has passed the baton on to me. I will be guiding us through the next season and doing my best to continue growing the ministry with a servants heart. One of my goals for this season is to draw the group closer in between rides...more on that to follow.

That being said, on to the other changes...Robert Murray and Matt Richter will be taking over the organization and coordination of ride location and trialbossing. The schedule has been posted on the web site. Robert Murray will be giving us a refresher course on trailbossing at the first ride. Start praying now that the weather is as good as it was last year! First aide is going to be handled by Dave Kearley and John Northrup. Just a reminder, you are responsible to come with your own insurance, ITD doesn't carry insurance. IF you do require medical attention, it is being provided out of the goodness of their hearts. Our camp photography will continue to be provided by Wendy Northrup. Check out the awesome shot that she took at the top of the Blog, pretty cool ehh?? Karin Murray will continue to be our "keeper of the roster". Jackrabbits is wide open this year, a few of the rides have hosts, but the more the merrier right? If you are interested in helping out on a ride or are interested in hosting Jackrabbits at a ride, shoot me an Email and I will hook you up with the right folks.

The other noticeable change will be the web site. The new site just launched 20 minutes ago and based on preliminary reactions to it, it's going to be fantastic! It's going to be our primary source for your quick look at what's going on, what's coming up and it's going to provide a snapshot of our weekends to anyone that checks it out. The number one thing that drew new families to come to fellowship with us last year was the web site. Thanks go out to Scott Burnett for building the original ITD web site and the years of maintenance and to Robert Murray for all the window and trailer stickers! There is a new blog too, it is going to be the place to visit for messages from me to the group, ride reports and teaching notes. The forums will continue as they have before, with a general forum and a for sale forum. A new forum will be added for prayer requests. We really hope that this will help with growing us closer to God and closer to each other. Ecclesiastes 4:9-12 says this: 9 Two are better than one, because they have a good return for their work: 10 If one falls down, his friend can help him up. But pity the man who falls and has no one to help him up! 11 Also, if two lie down together, they will keep warm. But how can one keep warm alone? 12 Though one may be overpowered, two can defend themselves. A cord of three strands is not quickly broken.

I have eluded twice to drawing us closer together between rides....On Saturday October 25th and Saturday November 22nd, Jess and I plan on hosting a family fun night at our house. We are going to show a movie outside on the garage door (Thanks John in advance for the projector!), so bring your chairs and your dinner and we can enjoy some time together, "Out of the Dirt". We hope that this will catch on and other families will choose to host similar events.

For those of you that made it to the picnic, I had a challenge for you.... We all know families who ride, some Christian and some not. I challenge all of us to bring ONE non-Christian family to ITD this year. Sounds pretty simple huh? There will be a prize for the first family who does this one. It's a doozie,of a prize, so rush right out and start lining that friend up for the first ride, October 7-9 at Cougar Buttes.

Here's a little history on the O'Connell's and ITD...we were introduced to ITD by Scott Burnett at the beginning of season two, ride two, Soggy Dry lake if I remember correctly. Since the first time we came we have felt the warmth and love of the families that were there. We became more involved in season three by trailbossing and generally becoming more "plugged in". In season four, my wife, Jess, took over Jack Rabbits and I continued to trailboss rides. Since the first time we came that November, we have missed one ride due to my illness. We have been there in wind, snow, mud and even pregnancy! Now, it's the start of season five and God has called us to lead the group into the new year. I am honored to be in the position that I am in and incredibly humbled. I don't deserve what God has given me in the first place, but this is how I get to show my love for Him! How awesome is that! This group belongs to God and to God goes the glory, I am just His vassal.

As the first ride comes closer, I will send out an Email to let everyone know to check out the web site and the Blog for information and directions. I look forward to the fellowship that we share and to getting to know all of you better this season.
